Stan Brewster was passionate about two
things: his family and sport. He lived in the Derbyshire village
of Swanwick, the sort of place where everybody knows everybody
else.
His wife, Sandra, is a hairdresser in the village, his son, Mark,
17, is a keen cricketer, and his daughter, Katie, 20, shares the
family love of sports.Mr Brewster, a project engineer with the
local council, was only in London for a conference. For a week,
his family put posters up around the city, vainly hoping he would
turn up alive. But police confirmed he had died at Edgware Road.
Swanwick businesses closed for an hour on the day of his funeral
as more than 1,000 people packed into St Andrew's church to pay
their respects to a man who played football for two teams and
coached local youngsters. At work Mr Brewster supervised the
construction of the Torrs millennium walkway, a footpath along the
River Goyt which won the 2000 small project award at the British
Construction Industry awards. His family summed up their feelings
in a brief statement: "Stan's needless and inhuman death has
touched all of our family, close friends and the community at
large. A loving husband, father and friend to many. Our lives have
changed in a split second, but our memories will last forever.
